Member of JHL, this is how you can have a strike benefit paid to your account
Your trade union JHL can pay you a strike benefit after you’ve participated in a strike. You can apply for the benefit after the strike. The prerequisites are that you became a member before the start of the strike, and that your membership fees are in order.
In the autumn and early winter, a gigantic bunch of JHL members has been striking to keep the Finnish working life humane also in the future. No salary is paid during a strike, so your trade union JHL will pay you a strike benefit under certain terms and conditions.
The amount of the strike benefit varies. In our latest strikes it’s been EUR 100 a day before taxes. The benefit is taxed in accordance with the Finnish Tax Administration’s instructions.
You can apply for the strike benefit through our member service myJHL. Read more detailed instructions on applying for the benefit.
Did you become a member right before a strike? You’ll be paid a benefit!
During the strike winter, many employees have joined Trade Union JHL. In January 2024, JHL attracted over 3,400 new members.
You can get strike benefit for the strikes that took place at the beginning of the year, too, provided that you joined our union before the start of the strike. Thus, you can participate in a strike and receive strike benefit, even if we haven’t had a chance to process your application before the start of the strike. It’s enough that you joined before the start of the strike, say, the previous day.
Who gets paid the strike benefit?
The benefit is paid to members who have participated in a strike.
We can pay you the benefit when you fulfil these prerequisites:
- You joined the union before the strike started.
- You’ve paid at least your first membership fee before being paid the benefit.
- Members who joined earlier must likewise have paid their membership fees.
- You act according to the decisions and instructions issued by JHL.
Because people were so eager to join our union, January 2024 saw a delay in processing membership applications. If you don’t see the benefit application in myJHL, you can contact your branch or regional office.
When do I have to apply for JHL’s strike benefit, and how quickly is it paid?
When a strike is over, you have to apply for the benefit within two (2) months. In early 2024, a large number of JHL members in several sectors participated in JHL’s strike. We process benefit applications continuously, and benefits are paid as soon as possible.
