Collective agreement negotiations for universities have moved to the National Conciliator

Efforts for resolving the bargaining deadlock in the collective agreement negotiations for universities have moved to the National Conciliator’s office. The negotiations were stopped on Tuesday when a result was still not achieved in three weeks’ extra time. A strike threatens Tampere University on 7 May.
The collective agreement negotiations for universities entered conciliation on Thursday 24 April.
The National Conciliator Anu Sajavaara invited the negotiation parties to her office after the employee organisations JHL, JUKO and Pro had issued a strike notice on Tuesday 22 April.
– It is really unfortunate that the new collective agreement could not be achieved through negotiations and we have to go to conciliation instead, JHL’s Bargaining Specialist Matti Sallila comments the beginning of the conciliation.
The conciliation will continue next week on Tuesday 29 April and Wednesday 30 April.
A strike threatens Tampere University
A new collective agreement for universities has been negotiated since early February without a result. The previous collective agreement expired at the end of March, and after that the negotiations continued “in extra time” for three weeks. The sector entered a period without agreement on Tuesday 22 April when the employee party stopped the negotiations in writing and issued a strike notice.
The collective agreement negotiations for universities will be boosted with a strike on 7 May, if the conciliation does not produce a solution before that. The strike concerns Tampere University and is 24 hours long. Read the news article about the strike:

JHL hopes for genuine conciliation and fair pay rises
The pain points in these collective agreement negotiations are the employer party’s reluctance to genuine negotiation and its attempts to keep pay rises too low and to bring poorer terms and conditions into the collective agreement.
– The top professionals in universities have earned pay rises that match the general level. I hope that we can achieve the new collective agreement with the help of the National Conciliator as soon as possible, says Sallila.
