Unemployment fund

JHL provides security in working life and when there are breaks in your career. Unemployment fund membership guarantees your income in a tricky or changing employment situation – if you’re facing unemployment or a layoff, or when it’s time to study a new occupation.

As a Trade Union JHL member, you’re insured for unemployment in the JHL Unemployment Fund. The JHL Unemployment Fund is the unemployment fund of welfare professionals. You can join the fund when you do paid work.

Earnings-related daily allowance is paid to members

As a member of the JHL Unemployment Fund, you can get earnings-related daily allowance, which markedly exceeds Kela’s basic unemployment allowance, if you face unemployment. If your pre-unemployment income was for instance about EUR 1,300/month, the earnings-related allowance is significantly higher than Kela’s basic unemployment allowance!

You become eligible for benefits paid by the unemployment fund when you fulfil the other prerequisites. First, you must always register as an unemployed jobseeker with the TE Office. Until 1 September 2024, the right to earnings-related unemployment benefit began after 26 weeks of work. From 2 September 2024 onwards, the prerequisite is 12 months of work that meets the work requirement for earnings-related unemployment benefit. You must be an unemployment fund member when you accumulate the required work history. Read more about the membership and work requirement from the website of the unemployment fund (in Finnish).

Your membership will remain in force by paying the membership fee or notifying of an exemption from paying the membership fee. You can take care of all membership-related matters conveniently in the myJHL service.
